Mount Gnomon Farm is idyllically set on a hill of rich red earth, protected by the Mount, and looking down the rolling green hills to the Bass Strait.
Guy Robertson is a passionate farmer and a genuine modest bloke. We first met on the farm in 2010 after hearing rave reviews of his rare-breed pork at Farmers’ Markets. Guy had not sold anything to restaurants at that point.
Guy’s enthusiasm for his new farm and goal of reviving rare-breeds through making the irresistible quality more commercially viable has been vindicated since. After first appearing on Pure South’s menus, his pork appears on menus in other excellent restaurants in Sydney and Melbourne; like Rockpool, Quay & Vue de Monde.
The ethically-raised pork has been a highlight on Pure South menus since 2010. Guy is our friend and we love to catch up with him on the farm, in Melbourne or at the footy. We will offer a range of his farm produce through the seasons.
When these strange days are over, you can also visit Guy on the farm, wander through the paddocks on a guided secret life of pigs tour, and learn from a farmer how good, honest food is produced. Meanwhile, we will bring his amazing Tassie produce to you.
‘Scottsdale Pork’ appeared in recent years on a couple of menus at the best restaurants around Tasmania, so we sought them out.
This is a family owned business which has been practicing ethical farming in Tasmania’s north–east for over 20 years.
We visit the free-range breeding and unique eco-barn farm, and the farmers, brothers, who are so passionate and inventive around animal welfare and regenerating farmland. Just out of Scottsdale, in the Cuckoo Valley at the base of the picturesque Scott Ranges, fed by pure spring water running in the Forester River. The landscapes are breathtaking and the quality of product is consistently superb.
